Dota 2 Hero XP Advantage Throughout the Game

Some heroes win the experience race in the first minutes and fade later; others fall behind early and take over the late game. This chart shows, minute by minute, how often each Dota 2 hero helps its team gain more experience than the enemy team, in patch 7.41. Right now the strongest early-game heroes are Undying (63.0%), Viper (61.9%), Razor (61.8%), Outworld Devourer (59.1%) and Huskar (58.5%), while Invoker (67.3%), Meepo (56.6%), Elder Titan (55.6%), Lone Druid (55.0%) and Phantom Assassin (54.7%) lead the late game.

How to read the chart

Each line is a hero, and each point a moment of the game, every 5 minutes from minute 5 to minute 45. The value is the share of games in which the hero's team gained more experience than the enemy team in the five minutes around that moment. 50% is neutral: above it the hero's team usually pulls ahead at that time, below it the team usually falls behind. Click a hero in the legend to show or hide it, or use the buttons above to show all heroes, clear the chart, or switch between the Very High, High and Normal skill brackets.

The shape of a line tells you when a hero is strong. A line that starts high and drops is a laning or early-game hero that should look for fights and objectives before its timing runs out. A line that starts low and rises is a hero that needs time and farm, and that its team has to protect until its power spike.

How it's calculated

Valve's Steam Web API reports, for every player in a match, the exact time each ability point was taken, and so the time each hero reached each level. From the hero levels we rebuild each team's total experience through the game, and compare the two teams every 5 minutes. Repeated over tens of thousands of public ranked All Pick matches of the current patch, this gives the probability that a hero brings its team the experience lead at each point in the game. The data was last updated on 5 October 2026.

Skill brackets go by the average rank of each match: Normal is Herald to Archon, High is Legend, and Very High is Ancient, Divine and Immortal.

Using it in the draft

A draft full of late-game heroes against a strong early lineup can lose before its heroes come online, while an all-in early draft has to end the game before it falls off. The Counter & Synergy Picker uses this data in its part-of-game advantage chart, so you can see when your team and the enemy team are at their strongest. There's more background on why we built it in this blog post.
